Proper Lawn Care
Green Lizard Landscape LLCs' lawn care program involves proper organic fertilization, sprinkler adjustment and timer programming, and verticle core aeration.  We do not provide a mowing service.  If you want do do it yourself, please follow the easy steps below.

2) Always use organic fertilizers.    Use an organic based fertilizer like Dr. Earth Lawn Food or Roots organic fertilizers.  Soil has millions of beneficial bacteria and fungi which help form soil structure, convert nutrients into available forms and help to break down thatch.  High quality organic fertilizers contain these microorganisms and help to inoculate the soil.  The use of chemical fertilizers has been shown to damage bacteria and fungus that live in the soil.

3) Mow high.  Mowing high (3 inches or more) is beneficial in multiple ways.  It shades the soil to keep the roots cool and conserve moisture.  The shade will also help to outcompete weed seeds for sunlight.  Keeping grass taller will allow the lawn to focus more on growing roots and increasing drought tolerance.

4) Water between 12:00AM and 7:00AM.  This is the optimal time frame for two reasons.  There is usually little wind at night, allowing the water to go into the soil, not the street.  Watering in this time frame helps prevent excessive evaporation (watering during the day), and helps prevent moisture from staying on the blades for too long (watering in the evening).

5) Core Aerate.  This is the process of pulling plugs from your lawn using a vertical aerator.  It allows more oxygen, water and nutrients into the soil.  Leave the plugs on the ground to decompose back into the soil.

6) Never de-thatch.  De-thatching is an old practice that was once thought to be a good idea.  It is a gas powered rake that goes over the lawn and rips out thatch, grass and roots.  Thatch is caused by multiple factors: chemical fertilizers, bagging your clippings, over watering, and over fertilizing.  By following our process, your lawn will begin to remove thatch by itself with healthy soil.

Proper lawn care is achieved by following these simple step.

1) Always mulch mow.  Bagging your clippings will rob the soil of the two things that a grass blade is primarily composed of: water and Nitrogen.  When you remove the grass you are constantly taking away these vital nutrients, plus they are already there.
